Lord Whaddon: Labour life peer

The Lord Whaddon, a life peer, died 16 August, 2005. He was aged 78.

As (John) Derek Page, he was Labour MP for Kings Lynn, 1964-70.

John Derek Page was born 14 August, 1927, the son of a bus driver, and was educated at St. Bedes College, Manchester, and London University (BSc Sociology).

Career: Director of Cambridge Chemical Co., Ltd from 1962, and Rindalbourne Ltd, 1983-90; Chairman of Daltrade Ltd from 1983, and Skorimpex-Rind Ltd, from 1986; Labour MP for Kings Lynn, 1964-70; created a life baron as Baron Whaddon, of Whaddon in the County of Cambridge, 1978.

Lord Whaddon, of The Old Vicarage, Whaddon, Royston, Hertfordshire was twice married, fristly, in 1948, to Catherine Audrey, daughter of John William Halls; Lady Whaddon died in 1979; married secondly, 1981, Angela Rixson, daughter of Luigi della Bella, of Treviso, Italy, and had issue from the first marriage, a son, the Hon John Keir Page, b. 1955, and a daughter, the Hon Eve-Ann, b. 1952.
