Sir Alastair Goodlad's peerage

The life peerage awarded to Sir Alastair Goodlad has been gazetted in the name, styleand title of Baron Goodlad, of Lincoln in the County of Lincolnshire.

Sir Alastair Robertson Goodlad, KCMG (1997), PC (1992), was appointed British High Commissioner to Australia in 2000; he was b. 4 July, 1943, son of Dr John Goodlad by his wife Isabel Sinclair, and was educated at Marlborough College; King's College, Cambridge (MA, LLB).
Career: Conservative MP for Northwich, Feb 1974-1983; Conservative MP for Eddisbury, 1983-99; Assistant Government Whip, 1981-82; a Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury, 1982-84; Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department of Energy, 1984-87; Comptroller of HM Household, 1989-90; Deputy Government Chief Whip and Treasurer of HM Household, 1990-92; Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, 1992-95; Parliamentary Secretary to HM Treasury & Govt Chief Whip, 1995-97; Opposition front bench spokesman on International Development, 1997-98; &c.
He married in 1968, Cecilia Barbara, 2nd daughter of Colonel Richard Lumley Hurst, by his wife the former Lady Barbara Lindsay (of the Earls of Crawford & Balcarres), and has issue:-
(i) Magnus James Goodlad, b. 1972, educated at Eton and Oriel College, Oxford; engaged 30 Oct 2000, to Victoria, elder daughter of Mr & Mrs Michael Manisty, of Devon. They have issue, one daughter, Flora Cecilia Charlotte, b. 6 August, 2004.
(ii) William Duff Goodlad, b. 1974, educated at Eton and Pembroke College, Oxford.
