The 15th Duke of Hamilton & 12th Duke of Brandon died on June 5, 2010. He was 71.

The duke was Premier Peer of Scotland & Hereditary Keeper of the Palace of Holyrood House. He bore the Crown of Scotland before the Queen at the opening of the first Scottish Parliament in 1999.

Angus Alan Douglas Douglas-Hamilton was born September 13, 1938, eldest son of the 14th duke by his wife the former Lady Elizabeth Ivy Percy, daughter of the 8th Duke of Northumberland, of Alnwick Castle.

The Old Etonian duke served as Flight Lt (RAF), and was buried in his uniform; he was a test pilot with Scottish Aviation, and member of The Queen's Body Guard for Scotland (Royal Company of Archers).

He married firstly in 1972 (div 1987) Sarah Jane (died 1994), dau of Sir Walter Scott, 4th Baronet; married secondly, 1988, Jillian (nee Robertson), former wife of (i) Martin Page and (ii) Edward Hulton, son of Sir Edward Hulton; and married thirdly, 1998, Kay Carmichael, who survives him, together with his children from his 1st marriage. His elder son, Alexander Douglas, Marquess of Douglas & Clydesdale, who was born March 31, 1978, now succeeds to his father's honours.

The Lady Laura Melissa Duckworth-Chad (nee Fortescue-Gore, b 14 Jun 1975), wife of Maj James Anthony L'Etang Duckworth-Chad (b 1972), has given birth to a daughter, Viola Cecily Fortescue, 12 May, 2010, a sister for Molly, who was b 21 Sept 2006.

Maj Duckworth-Chad is a grandson of the former Lady Anne Spencer, sister of the 8th Earl Spencer. Lady Laura is a dau of the 9th Earl of Arran by his wife the former Eleanor van Cutsem.

Death of Lady Susan Askew, sister of the 6th Duke of Sutherland

_.The Lady Susan Alice Askew, who died 29 April, 2010, was a scion of the Earls of Ellesmere, and a sister of the late 6th Duke of Sutherland. She was born in 1913, as Lady Susan Egerton, 4th daughter of the 4th Earl of Ellesmere (1872-1944), by his wife the former Lady Violet Lambton (1880-1976), daughter of the 4th Earl of Durham; her only brother, John (1915-2000), succeeded as 5th Earl of Ellesmere in 1944, and as 6th Duke of Sutherland on the demise of his kinsman, in 1963. Two sisters, Mary and Jane married Scropes; another two sisters, Margaret and Alice, were members of the Royal Household. Lady Margaret was a Lady-in-Waiting to the Queen and later to the Queen Mother, and wife of Sir Jock Colville (scion of Colville of Culross), and Lady Alice, was a Woman of the Bedchamber to the Queen, who committed suicide in 1977. Lady Susan married, 4 Oct 1933 (div. 1966) Maj John Marjoribanks Askew CBE, only son of William Haggerston Askew, of Ladykirk, co. Berwick, and has issue, a son Henry, and a dau, Sarah, who married 1959, the 3rd Baron Faringdon.

Richard's father is only the 6th Baron Grey of Codnor even though the
peerage of England was created in 1397. The title was abeyant between

__The Lady Mary Rose (Emma) Williams (nee FitzRoy) who died at the Old Prebenal House, 8 March, 2010, aged 91, was a scion of the Dukes of Grafton, born posthumously, 7 September, 1918, dau of William Henry Alfred,Viscount Ipswich (1884-1918), by his wife Auriol Brougham (d 1938), scion of the Barons Brougham & Vaux. Her father was killed in a plane crash, and her brother, the 9th Duke of Grafton (1914-36), died in a motor racing accident. Lady Mary Rose was a co-heir, with her

_.Sheela Mary Lindsay (née FitzGerald), who died 5 February, 2010,
aged 74, was widow of David Claud Lindsay (1934-2002), scion of the
Earls of Crawford & Balcarres. She was the former Sheela Mary
FitzGerald, dau of Michael Edward FitzGerald, of Co Galway, and
married David Lindsay, 18 Nov, 1964. Her husband was a son of David
Edzell Thomas Lindsay (1910-68), by his 1st wife the former Kathleen
Green. David Lindsay's yr half-brother was Maj. Hugh Lindsay
(1953-88), sometime Equerry to HM The Queen, who died in an avalanche
at Klosters whilst skiing with the Prince of Wales. Mrs Lindsay leaves

Cambridgeshire). Tom's paternal grandfather was Maj. William Augustus Ludwig Vernon William Hope Johnstone, Grenadier Guards, [1914-93], who marr. Pamela Maud Cobbold [later Cadogan] [1920-94], and is a gt-grandson of Lt-Col Ivan Cobbold and his wife, the former Lady Blanche Cavendish; & is thus a gt-gt-grandson of the 9th Duke of Devonshire. Tom's paternal gt-grandfather George Granville Hope Johnstone who was
born in 1880, married Princess Marie-Luise zu Hohenlohe-Oehringen [1867-1945}. Philip Hope-Cobbold married [i] 1968, [div. 1984], (Antonia) Jay Hutton-Potts.

_.The Dowager Duchess of St Albans, author, artist and journalist, widow of Charles Frederic Aubrey de Vere Beauclerk, 13th Duke of St Albans (1915-88), died suddenly at her care home in Newbury on Friday 12 February 2010 aged 88 years. She was born Suzanne Marie-Adèle Fesq, circa 1921, dau. of Emile William Fesq, of Mas Mistral, Vence, France, and married the then Charles Beauclerk, as his 2nd wife, 19 Mar, 1947. Her husband succeeded to the dukedom (Peerage of England) on the demise of a cousin, 2 Mar, 1964, and died 8 Oct 1988, when he was succeeded by a son of his 1st marriage. The duchess leaves issue, viz: Lord Peter Charles de Vere Beauclerk (b. 13 Jan 1948); Lord James Charles Fesq de Vere Beauclerk (b. 6 Feb 1949); Lord John William Aubrey de Vere Beauclerk (b. 10 Feb 1950); Lady Caroline Anne de Vere
Beauclerk (b. 19 Jul 1951). She was predeceased by a daughter who died in infancy in 1963.

Christopher Grey (scion of the Earls Grey) and, before that, widow of
Anthony Seymour Bellville (of the LG family of Bellville of Tedstone
Court). She was dau of Ewen Cameron Bruce (of the LG family Bruce of
Blaen-y-Cwm).

Cordelia Baroness Greenway, who died 14 January, 2010, aged 91, was
the widow of (Charles) Paul Greenway, 3rd Baron Greenway (1917-75.)
She was born Cordelia Mary Stephen, at Farnham, Surrey, in 1918, dau
of Maj Humfrey Campbell Stephen, JP, of High Mead, Dormansland,
Surrey, and married Paul Greenway in 1939. He died in 1975. She leaves
issue, Ambrose, the 4th Baron (b 21 May 1941), and is predeceased by 2
other sons, Mervyn (1942-2001) and Nigel (b 1944- d?). Lady Greenway's
body has been donated for medical research at her request. Memorial
gathering for family and close friends in the Spring.

Grosvenor, and sister of Bendor, 2nd Duke of Westminster, &c. Her
marriage to Lieutenant-Commander George Gosselin Marten, MVO, DSC, RN,
son of Vice-Admiral Sir Francis Marten, KBE, CB, CMG, CVO, took place
at Holy Trinity Church, Brompton, 25 Nov 1949. He was an equerry to
the King, and the marriage was attended by King George VI, Queen
Elizabeth, Princess Margaret, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the
Duchess of Kent, Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone and Major-General
the Earl of Athlone.
The Hon Mrs Marten was High Sheriff of Dorset in 1989. She leaves

Thomas Stourton is a son of the late Maj Michael Godwin Plantagenet Stourton (of the Barons Mowbray, Segrave & Stourton), by his wife Lady Joanna Lambart, dau of Field Marshal the 10th Earl of Cavan, & Susanna is a daughter of Evan Robert (Joss) Hanbury (b. 1951), of that landed family (descended from the Birkin Baronets), by
his former wife, the former Rosalind Jeannette Pease b. 1954 (now Mrs Rodney Portman), dau of Derrick Allix Pease (of the Pease Baronets) by his wife, the Hon Rosemary Portman, dau of the 5th Viscount Portman.

Capel Cure/Craigie engagement

_. The engagement was announced 2 January, 2010, between Edward Capel
Cure, scion of that LG family of Blake Hall, Ongar, youngest son of
the late George Ronald Capel-Cure, of Blake Hall, Ongar, Essex, who
died 28 Oct, 2006, aged 70, by his 1st wife, Caroline (d. 1986),
daughter of Giles Yarnton Mills, & Charlotte Craigie, only daughter of
Mr and Mrs Ian Craigie, of Killarden, Dunboyne, Co Meath.

Edward's grandfather was (George) Nigel Capel Cure, TD, JP, DL, (b. 28
Sept, 1908; died 8 August, 2004) ( descended from Thomas Cure, of
Southwark, Surrey, saddler to King Edward VI, Queen Mary I, and Queen
Elizabeth I, who was granted arms in 1588), by his wife Nancy
Elizabeth Barry (1910-2006), scion of the Barry Baronets (cr. 1899).

Twin grandsons for the Duchess of Cornwall

Laura Rose Lopes (nee Parker Bowles b 1978), scion of the Earls of Macclesfield & wife of Harry Marcus George Lopes (b. 1977), scion of the Barons Roborough, gave birth to twin sons, Louis & Gus, born in London, 31 Dec, 2009.

Harry Lopes is the only son of the Hon. George Edward Lopes (b. 1945), of Yealmpton, Plymouth, Devon, by his wife, the former Hon. Sarah Violet Astor (b. 1953), & Laura is the only daughter of Brigadier Andrew Henry Parker Bowles, OBE (b. 1939), and of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall.

Harry Lopes is a grandson paternally of the 2nd Baron Roborough (1903-92), and a grandson maternally of the 2nd Baron Astor of Hever (1918-84), by his wife Lady Irene Haig, daughter of Field Marshal the 1st Earl Haig, KT, GCB, OM, GCVO, KCIE (1861-1928), &c.
