14th Lord Reay 1937-2013

_.The 14th Lord Reay (and 14th Baronet), Chief of the Clan Mackay and Baron Mackay von Ophemert (in the Netherlands), died 10 May, 2013. He was 75. Hugh William Mackay was born 19 Jul 1937, son of the 13th Lord Reay (1905-63), by his wife the former Charlotte Mary Younger, and succeeded to the peerage and baronetcy on his father's demise, 10 March, 1963. Sometime Member of the European Parliament at Strasbourg, a Lord in Waiting, Under Sec Dept of Trade and Industry in the administrations of Margaret Thatcher and John Major, &c; elected to the House of Lords in 1999, and was Deputy Speaker. He married 1stly, 1964 (div 1978) the Hon Annabel Fraser, dau of the 15th (de facto) Lord Lovat; married 2ndly, 1980, the Hon Victoria Isabella Warrender, only dau of the 1st Baron Bruntisfield, and had issue from both marriages. The family honours now devolve upon his Lordship's elder of the first marriage, the Hon Aeneas Simon Reay, Master of Reay, who was born 20 March, 1965. Funeral at St Michael's Church, Whittington, Lancashire, 23 May. -=-
